Book Club and More

On Feb. 19, the day after Anastasia, we left to go to Green River for our Mathis Family Book Club. The book we discussed is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
From Amazon: "Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.
Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.
All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.
His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.
And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.
    Or does he?
An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian—while taking us to places it never dreamed of going."

The following pictures are from dinner, book club, marshmallow/spaghetti tower building, and pickleball. No Mathis party would be complete without some sort of meal. After getting some food, we discussed the book. This was one of our better discussions. It lasted more than a few minutes and we discussed several different questions/topics. After book club, Kara needed some help with a school assignment. We split into teams and made marshmallow/spaghetti towers. I had done this before in one of my Rec Therapy classes. It was super fun.
Of course, we ended the day with some games of pickleball. In the last game I played, I forgot I was playing on concrete. As I went to get a ball, I ended up on the ground and scraped my knee. Fortunately, I managed to not put a hole in my pants. At least I had that going for me. I definitely need some more practice in playing this game!
