Christmas 2020

Another Christmas has come and gone. It was a good one. Different, but good. I feel like I have said that about many of the holidays of 2020. It’s true. Don’t get me wrong, I miss family parties, but I’m trying to find the positives in this wild and crazy time.

My vacation started before Christmas. During my 5 days off, I went to Mom’s. It was nice to chill and help get things ready for the Christmas festivities.

A funny from Mary my first night home. Mandy and Mary were watching a Christmas movie on TV. Mom was sleeping through it. We were talking and I don’t remember all the details. Mary was in a mood. At some point she got annoyed with Mandy. Pepper, the cat, came in and Mary looked at him and told him, “Go ahead and claw her!” Meaning claw Mandy. Mary stood up and when we asked her what was up she replied, “I just want to talk.... How is the weather in Ogden Cassy?” It was an interesting moment for sure.

I picked up Helena from Provo and took her to Ogden on the 23rd. On the 24th, I went to work. I left work a little early (I think it was around 4:30) and went to my apartment to load up the car, pick up Helena, and head for Mom’s.

We got to Altamont between 8:00 and 8:30. The family had already had dinner consisting of cold cuts and soup. After we ate we got on the Facebook Portal to do our movie exchange with Dad and John. That was fun! Unfortunately, the internet connection didn’t keep up. For most of the visit, Dad and John were blurry. I think we were blurry for them too.

After the game, Mary and Meg left with Carol to spend the night at her house. Helena stayed in Mary’s room, Mandy stayed in my room, and Mom slept in Mandy’s. We agreed to meet up with everyone at 7 am our time.

Morning came and we put the portal on again and again it got blurry. It was still better than nothing and the best we could do to be all together. We opened our presents and just enjoyed each other’s company.

After presents, Mom and Meg made a breakfast. We did a big breakfast like we had with the Gardner side. That is a tradition from the Gardner side. I’m not sure how it started, but we are keeping it going including the cheese bread. Everything tasted delicious. Thanks Mom and Meg!

The rest of the day we weren’t sure what to do with ourselves. Minus like one maybe two years, we have been at Grandma and Grandpa Gardner’s for the party. We took pictures of our things, took naps, talked, and watch movies on TV.

None of us were hungry for a big dinner. So instead of making our Christmas dinner, we ate leftovers.

All in all, it was a different but good Christmas. Merry Christmas to all!

Playing the movie game from Dad and John’s point of view. I didn’t get any pictures of them.
